Our Church

If you are reading this, perhaps you are looking for a church home? Its a difficult choice given the many different options that are present in the modern day church. To help you get some answers, you will find here a good summary of what worshipping at UHBC is like.

I am just betting you came to our humble website with several questions and also just guessing that some of them relate to:

  • what is the worship and music style like (i.e. Will my ears be ringing after service) ?
  • what kind of preaching is done?
  • what kind of youth / children’s programs there are?
  • Is there a coffee bar?

All very important questions, lets see if we can provide some clarity to some of them.

Worship Time:

At UHBC, we want to have a service that is God honoring just as every church wants. How its done here at UHBC is  our talented pianist plays the music, the choir and the congregation sings. That’s it! We believe that the worship service is for the One being worshiped not the worshipper. We believe our style allows you to focus on the message of a song and reach out with your heart, mind and voice to God.

Even on the days when our pianist is really feeling the spirit you will not have ringing ears afterwards.

Preaching:

When it comes to the preaching, our pastor follows this simple model from Ephesians:

Ephesians 4

14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ

Speaking the truth in love. So simple and yet so powerful. What this means is that any given Sunday you will likely be uplifted and feeling hopeful, because of the love of Christ that is given to us, but also you might have a feeling of being challenged to take a hard look into the mirror and see if something needs to be changed. If we are all reading from the same Bible then that is what we should expect out of our church experience – right?

Youth & Children Philosophy

The youth of the church are the future of the church. This obvious fact is one of the reasons UHBC works to train Christ-like families. Our programs are designed to deeply engage our youngest members and train them to enter the world with a strong understanding of their faith.

We want our youth to understand that they are a part of a group. Fellowship is strongly encouraged and there are monthly activities to foster connections. We generally discourage our youth in engaging in electronic activities while in their classes. While having the Bible app on a phone is ok, social media updates should wait.

Is there a coffee bar?

If you are looking for an fancy coffee counter with an exotic assortment of caffeine choices, we don’t really have that. What we do have is a fellowship time on Sundays and a weekly fellowship meal on Wednesdays. Hey, we are a baptist church, there is always an opportunity to eat and fellowship just around the corner. Its what we do!

Summary

There is more information available throughout the website if you want to dive in deeper. Hopefully, this provided a good summary of our church and generally how we go about doing the Lord’s work.
